Guns for General Washington
Soldiers traveled miles and miles in the cold weather to get heavy guns and artillery from Fort Ticonderoga and then travel by water to Fort George. How would you feel if you are going into the cold and never know if you are going to come back alive? Guns for General Washington by Seymour is a very good book because it explains the difficult ways in the army in 1775. William Knox is a young man in the army just waiting to get some action and when his time arrives he makes it count. A 19 year old in charge of artillery and he hears, “Uh, well-I’m afraid, sir, there isn’t any” (RReit). That is not a good thing to hear if you are in charge of artillery. A 19 year old boy and his brother Henry are in charge of a group of soldiers who must travel through cold weather and for miles. No one believed in William Knox’s plan to go over and get artillery from Fort Ticonderoga but General George Washington. George Washington was afraid his army might fall unless he gets some artillery (Reit). Williams plan was not believed possible by all the but Washgtion believed in him. The confidence that George had in William gave William confidence to go over there and get all those supplies and get to Fort George after. William is going to prove to all those people that doubted him wrong. When you’re on a boat in the cold and fog is everywhere, you can’t see a thing. If you make one wrong turn you could be going under and your artillery could be gone. That is how William felt when he was on the boat. All that pressure was no him. One wrong way and they might not make it back. He was confident in himself and he got though the river with a couple holes in the side, but he made it to Fort George. Just think if you were in the American Revaluation in the cold and seeing your friends almost die with you because of the cold and low supplies. That is very hard to imagine because you never want to go through that moment. Guns for General Washington by Seymour is a very good story about the American Revolution because it makes you see the war from another point of view.
